Propositions investigate the concept of megalomania in architecture; the means by which building is used as an instrument of power (often as propaganda) and dictates human movement. The work draws on architecture competitions for public buildings and monuments during Stalinist Russia, where young architects submitted incredible designs , many of which simply could not exist in reality.
‘Propositions’ reference historical movements, architectures of power in order to depict ambitious political plans relayed in shaping our environment. The drawn improbable structures, amalgamated from various architectural styles are all plotted into a lithograph of a field. The field is on the outskirts of Vienna, Austria and is one of the last remaining undeveloped and retained for farmland in the Essling/Lobau area over the past 25 years. The work questions the relationship power, architecture and construction have with nature and our environment.
